If there’s one thing the Marvel Cinematic Universe does well, it’s putting a spotlight on underdog heroes. One such hero is Hawkeye, who has never been underestimated and continues to prove that he can hang with the best of them. In fact, there have been several instances in which he’s stepped up to save his teammates, including when he saved Wanda Maximoff during Captain America: Civil War.
The moment was a touching display of a deep friendship between two people who have been through a lot together. It was also a reminder that even the most powerful heroes are not indestructible. In a time where the MCU has been focusing on giving female characters more power and agency, there’s no reason not to give Hawkeye and Wanda some more love.
Despite being confined to Avengers Compound during Civil War, the MCU has given Wanda the opportunity to show that she’s more than just a villain with a bad personality. She’s been able to demonstrate a willingness to confront her problems head on and fight for what she believes in, something that is often difficult to do when wielding such immense powers. She’s fought off threats like the Kree and the Asgardians, while standing up to her former adoptive father Magneto and Doctor Doom, who both wanted her powers for themselves.
Wanda has even been able to walk back some of her most heinous actions (including manipulating reality to bring back her dead children). While it’s not entirely clear whether she can be absolved for the things she’s done, she is an Avenger who has saved far more lives than she’s taken.
That’s why it’s a shame that Marvel missed an opportunity to strengthen this unique friendship between two of its best-known male and female superheroes. While the pair have their own Disney+ series coming out, they could’ve used this opportunity to build on their bond and explore their complicated relationship.
With Wanda Vision and Hawkeye set to debut on Disney Plus, there’s still hope that Marvel can reunite this unlikely duo before it’s too late. In the meantime, fans can check out Renner and Olsen’s new movie Wind River, which follows a tracker and FBI agent working on a murder case on a Wyoming reservation.
It’s easy to see why fans want hawkeyexwanda, as this would allow Marvel to further explore this strained friendship between two of its most interesting characters. In addition to their obvious chemistry, both actors have shown they can handle drama as well as action movies, making them the perfect pairing for these two unlikely friends. In the end, a Hawkeye and Wanda series might be one of the MCU’s most underrated partnerships.
