When the first Avengers: Endgame trailer dropped this week, it was full of action and emotion. But it also featured one very strange hairstyle — and the internet has been losing its mind over it. Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye looks totally different in the new footage, with his hair shorn into a punk mohawk. Some fans think the hair change is a sign that Hawkeye is shedding his superhero persona for a more solitary existence as Ronin, similar to what happened in the comics. Others are simply wondering if his barber somehow survived the Thanos apocalypse.
Either way, the hair is certainly eye-catching and will likely turn a lot of heads when the film hits theaters next month. And Marvel seems to be aware of it, too. The company recently released a tutorial on how to recreate Yelena Belova’s show-stopping braids from the Disney+ series Hawkeye. Marvel explains that “Yelena is more than just an assassin — she’s a loyal sister and style icon.” And they’re right — her four-part round and fishtail braids are definitely eye-catching, especially when she’s jumping out of windows or running across rooftops.
The tutorial, which is part of a larger series on Marvel Studios’ YouTube channel, explains how to create the look by starting with two French braids on either side of the head and then pulling them down over the top of the head. It also notes that a little teasing of the ends can give the appearance more dimension. The final step is to add some flyaways for a more realistic look. The video then ends with Marvel reminding viewers to check out the entire Hawkeye series and Marvel Studios’ Assembled: The Making of Hawkeye, which are streaming now on Disney+.
While the tutorial is certainly helpful, not everyone has a professional hairstylist on hand to help them achieve this look. But for those who do, it’s definitely worth a try. After all, who doesn’t want to rock a punk-inspired mohawk like Hawkeye?
To get started on your own hawkeye-inspired look, start by growing out your hair on top. Then, visit a stylist and explain to them what you’re looking for. You can even bring a picture of Jeremy Renner to help make the case!
While it’s still too soon to say what happens in the actual movie, we can’t wait to see Avengers: Endgame in theaters on April 26. We’ll be keeping a close eye on all the upcoming MCU releases, including Captain Marvel and Spider-Man Far From Home.
