Kate Bishop – Marvel’s Avengers DLC Review

hawkeye dlc

For six months Marvel’s Avengers has been plagued by a lack of new content, which has seen the once-popular shooter lag behind its chief competitors in the multiplayer space. A few DLC have been released in the meantime, but none have been able to address many of the game’s core issues. Despite this the developers haven’t given up on the title and have promised further updates, including the addition of Kate Bishop, who is set to arrive in March. This DLC will be free for players who have already bought the original game.

The DLC will follow the story of a younger Hawkeye living in Brooklyn. Unlike his older self who is searching for Nick Fury in the future this younger version of Clint Barton has other business to tend to in the present. His quest leads him through a dusty Wastelands that looks and plays like a Tomb Raider 2013. Along the way, he will have to recover his old friend Lucky the pizza dog; find out why this future is so similar to the one we live in now; and finally face off against Maestro, the Supreme Leader of this dystopia.

Playing as this new Hawkeye is a lot of fun. The character is a classic ranged fighter that doesn’t have the teleportation abilities of other MCU heroes but still packs a punch with his ability to fire different types of trick arrows. He also has the ability to switch between his regular shooting camera and an aiming view instantly, which is a real boon for those who prefer a more tactical approach to combat. There are a few unlockable skills to improve his gameplay further, and he quickly becomes a hit-and-runner that can pepper enemies with a variety of different arrows.

While the DLC is a welcome addition to the Marvel’s Avengers universe, it’s unlikely that it will be enough to keep existing players around for long. The main campaign already feels very repetitive and the DLC missions take you back through the same stretches of boring desert that have been repeated over and over again since the launch of the game.

The Kate Bishop DLC is a little more engaging than the Hawkeye DLC, but it doesn’t do much to make the core experience feel fresh. The most disappointing part is that the DLC doesn’t do anything to bring new people in to the fold, which is what Marvel’s Avengers needs right now if it wants to grow its player base. Hopefully, the developers will continue to update this promising game and eventually add new content that can compete with its rivals in the multiplayer space. If you’re interested in seeing more of what Marvel’s Avengers has to offer, the publisher is planning to release additional DLC for Black Panther and Spiderman this year. These are expected to introduce a range of new characters, locations and events that will give fans more reasons to return to the universe.
