Jeremy Renner Joins the Hawkeye Series Cast

Jeremy Renner will continue to carry the torch as Marvel hero Hawkeye in the upcoming series that premieres on Disney Plus this November. But it’s not just about Barton — his successor, Kate Bishop, also a skilled archer, will join the team as well in this street-level story inspired by the 2012-2015 Marvel Comics run on the character by David Aja and Annie Wu.

The official synopsis for the series states that the series “picks up directly after Avengers: Endgame.” It’s been reported that the show will see Barton hand off the mantle of Hawkeye to Bishop, who is described as a “fierce, smart, badass woman” with her own set of skills. She’s been dubbed a “new generation” of the hero thanks to her specialized skills and gadgets.

With that in mind, the show could see the pair face a new threat together, one that’s closer to home than usual for both of them. And that’s because set photos have reportedly revealed that the series will focus on Hawkeye dealing with hearing loss.

That’s because the photos show a small piece of wire that looks like a hearing aid on the top right of his frame, which makes sense considering the fact that Barton has been suffering from hearing problems for years now. Some fans believe that set photos have also shown the actor with his hearing aids in the trailer, which is a pretty solid lead to suggest that it will be a major part of the series.

The rest of the cast is made up of a mix of old faces and new ones. In addition to Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld, who both learned American Sign Language for their roles, there’s Linda Cardellini as his wife Laura, Brian d’Arcy James as her late father Derek Bishop, and Fra Fee as a villain called Kazi aka Clown. Zahn McClarnon and Florence Pugh are set to star as Bishop’s teammates.

Filming for the series began in December 2020 and wrapped up about four months later, with Renner confirming that it’d be a “holiday season” for the show when it debuts this November. Troop Zero directors Amber Finlayson and Katie Ellwood signed on to direct a number of episodes, while Welsh director Rhys Thomas is also helming some.

More casting news has been released since then, with Black Widow star David Harbour recently revealing that his character Red Guardian will seek out Barton on a quest for retribution. Other familiar faces include Fra Fee, Alaqua Cox, Vera Farmiga, and Tony Dalton as a villain called Jack Duquesne aka Swordsman. The complete list of cast members can be seen in the gallery above. Hawkeye is set to premiere on November 24, a week before Thanksgiving. It is the first of five new Marvel Studios TV shows that will launch this year.
