Hawkeye’s Absence in the Avengers: Infinity War Trailer May Not Be What You Expected

The latest Avengers: Infinity War trailer has fans of the MCU franchise in a frenzy, and for all the right reasons. The clip shows a ton of beloved heroes preparing to take on the intergalactic warlord Thanos, and it’s clear that the entire universe is on the line. But one character who isn’t quite part of the action is Hawkeye.

The character played by Jeremy Renner isn’t anywhere to be seen in the new promo, and that has left a lot of people wondering where on Earth is Clint Barton during all this. Well, Vox has some answers to the question of what is happening with the character and it may not be exactly what you were expecting.

A big reason for Hawkeye’s absence in the first Infinity War trailer is that he’s not actually in the movie at all. That’s a bit of a twist and certainly a surprise to Marvel fans, but the directors behind the film explain the reason for his absence in an interview with Collider.

“Hawkeye, coming out of Civil War and his decisions there and he’s not on Captain America’s side at that point,” the Russo brothers said. “He has a bit of a long play sub-storyline through this movie and into the next one.”

While that explanation makes sense, it also leaves fans feeling like they’re being a little cheated by not seeing Hawkeye in all the promotional material. After all, he is a member of the team and if everyone is going to risk their lives to save the universe, it would be logical that he’d play a role in some way.

But if the Russo brothers are being entirely honest, they’re not sure that he will be able to make it through the film alive. He has a pretty serious injury that could leave him incapacitated, which would obviously affect the story. They also explained that the movie has to wrap up by the end of this year, which might mean he won’t be around much longer.

Luckily, we’ll be able to see more of Hawkeye in the upcoming Avengers 4 film, which is currently shooting. That movie is set to be released in just a few months, and it will give us a chance to finally find out what’s up with the bow-and-arrow guy.

It seems like a bit of a shame to not get to see Jeremy Renner shooting his arrows in the face of Thanos for the final time, but maybe it’s for the best. He’s probably better off spending time with his kids and teaching them how to shoot a bow and arrow than fighting an alien god with Infinity Stones. Plus, the next film is a solo flick for Ant-Man, which should keep him busy for a while.
