Hawkeye Vs Black Widow (2012) Review

After reuniting, Hawkeye and Black Widow are battling an assassin named Mikhail, who is going after both of them. After a quick fight, Hawkeye manages to get the upper hand and takes Mikhail out with a single shot. In the aftermath of the battle, Hawkeye and Black Widow talk and she admits to him that she actually did kill a Russian minister, a truth that makes him reassess his feelings for her.

Afterwards, the two team up to stop a criminal organization called the Zodiac led by former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Galina Anokhin, who is trying to sell a deadly drug that turns people into reptilian lizards in the AVENGERS ASSEMBLE (2012) #12 comic by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Pete Woods. They quickly discover that this isn’t the first time Galina and her henchmen have tried to get their hands on the Cosmic Cube. They are also after the new Zeon which is why the Avengers have teamed up with them to stop the group from getting their hands on it.

Back in the Red Room, S.H.I.E.L.D. security is escorting Black Widow to where Director Fury is standing. He asks her if she is sure that they have her, and she replies yes. He then tells them to take her power dampening collar off and after she thanks him, he corrects her that it’s Hawkeye who she really should thank as they exit the room.

At the Barton Residence, Clint is talking on his bluetooth phone with Agent Coulson when he hears a loud crash in the living room. He heads there and finds his children’s bikes and furniture smashed. He asks Laura what happened and she explains that she was attacked by one of the brainwashed Swordsman. Clint is unimpressed but cautiously accepts her explanation about the brainwashing.

During the relaunch of the main Marvel titles in early 2012, 20th Century Fox had plans to make a live-action S.H.I.E.L.D. movie starring Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. As X-Men and Spider-Man took off, those plans changed and the project was renamed to BLACK WIDOW AND HAWKEYE and eventually moved into the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon.

Black Widow and Hawkeye’s storied history spans over sixty years and includes everything from being captured by the Soviets to fighting off assassin after assassin. The duo have had some tough times and they are a team that always come together when the world is in peril. Now that they are reteaming, Black Widow and Hawkeye will need each other more than ever.
