Hawkeye – The First Appearance of Your Favorite Modern Day Hawkeye

Hawkeye is a fictional superhero appearing mainly in American comic book comics released by Marvel Comics. Designed by penciler Stan Lee and illustrator Don Heck, Hawkeye first appeared as an enemy in Tales of Suspense#57 and eventually became an integral member of the team in The Avengers series. He was an avid hunter, a skilled marksman and lover of beautiful ladies. However, he always had an ulterior motive – to recover a mysterious and powerful weapon called Thelance. In modern times, though, he is a devoted member of the Avengers and one of the most powerful weapons in their arsenal of fighting heroes.

Hawkeye’s first appearance established him as an icon of the comic book world. He battled not only villains but also a few heroes like The Phantom, The Vision, Ant Man and The Wasp. He was a founding member of the Avengers and never missed an issue. Hawkeye’s weapons expertise was probably his greatest asset and perhaps his only real weakness. He often got himself badly hurt and needed many years of practice to become a master archer. His skills however were never in question.

As soon as the comic book series began, people simply loved the archery man. He had the most colorful wardrobe and was a great distraction for The Avengers. His comic book appearances featured a variety of new villains, all of which he easily defeat. He managed to fight off several high-level villains over the years, including The Phantasm, Madman, Dracula and The Red Hulk.

During the television show, Hawkeye’s first appearance was as a supporting character in the episode “Ursa Major”. He was a devoted friend to Dr. Franklin Storm and showed great skill in fighting villains and The Avengers. Unlike most comic book heroes, he rarely had recurring characters, if any. Most of his appearances were one-shot affairs.

In most modern day Hawkeye pictures, he is armed with a traditional bow and arrow. Although his weapon is traditional, it isn’t always the weapon of choice. Some artists have Hawkeye using his classic bow and arrow, but many times he is seen wielding a pair of ionisers. Ions are mysterious electrical weapons, created by Professor X for the purpose of destroying objects. It is possible that he lost the use of his ionisers in the crossover event with The Incredible Hulk.

In most modern depictions of Hawkeye, he wields an enlarged version of his trademark bow and arrow. His weapons are almost always plasma cut or plasma swords. These weapons were probably created after the TV show. The weapons were a welcome change from the large, awkward bows and arrows Hawkeye used in the television shows.
