Hawkeye Kills Black Widow in New Disney+ Series

One of the strongest friendships in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is between sharpshooters Hawkeye (Clint Barton) and Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff). The pair have a close bond, even when they disagree with each other. It’s why it was so heartbreaking when Black Widow died in Avengers: Endgame, sacrificing herself to acquire the Soul Stone and breaking Clint’s heart in the process. The new Disney+ series Black Widow, starring Florence Pugh and directed by Joss Whedon, could bring this relationship back to the forefront of fans’ minds. Here’s how.

When it comes to the MCU, no character has had as complicated a history as Black Widow. Turned into a killing machine while in the Red Room, she left a trail of bodies behind her before joining the Avengers. She has had some of the most traumatic experiences in superhero history, and even after she was fully rehabilitated, she continued to leave her mark on people’s lives. The post-credits scene for the movie hints that she’s still leaving her mark, and it’s not good.

The scene shows Yelena, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, visit Black Widow’s grave and mourn her passing in a nod to her sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame. However, the moment is interrupted by a snotty Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, better known as Val, who gives her a new target. “I want you to go after him,” she says. “He’s responsible for her death.”

It would be easy to say that this is a plot point from the Black Widow movie that will be carried over into the Disney+ series. After all, the show is supposed to take place in the current MCU, which means that Yelena will have a lot of unresolved feelings about her former friend. However, it’s also possible that this is a new storyline for the franchise that will be introduced in order to give Black Widow a more definitive and tragic ending than what was shown in the movie.

Before her death, Black Widow and Hawkeye were mercenaries together working for Zemo’s Hydra group, Siege Society, against the Squadron Supreme of America, a collection of the country’s oldest and most wealthy men. The two were fighting over which of them should die, and while they couldn’t agree on the end result of the mission, they did agree that one of them had to sacrifice themselves in order for the other to survive. Ultimately, the two set up a five-story building in Budapest with bombs that killed Dreykov and his daughter, Antonia.

Although it wasn’t explicitly mentioned in the movie, it’s possible that this event caused a rift between the two of them. This may have been the catalyst that led to the breakup of their friendship and the start of their conflict with each other. It’s a twist that could prove very emotional for fans. The new film and the upcoming TV series look like they’ll be exploring this angle of the story, which could lead to an epic clash between the two women in the near future.
