Hawkeye Gough Key Information

Hawkeye Gough is a character in Dark Souls III. He is a NPC found after the player defeats Knight Artorias, and is located up a set of stairs opposite the Battle of Stoicism Gazebo in Oolacile Township. Gough is the leader of the Greatarchers and Dragonslayers, and a former knight of Gwyn, Lord of Cinder. He is a very tall, gruff man who speaks in a deep, growling voice. Gough is an old man with a scarred face, and he possesses a powerful intellect. He is very sly and deceitful, and he has an insatiable appetite for blood. He also carries around an ancient sword, the Hawkeye Gough Knife, which he uses to dispatch his enemies.

Despite his age, Gough is a formidable warrior, and he is able to hold his own against most of the NPCs in the game. He is especially dangerous due to his ability to teleport at will, as well as his long ranged bow, which can damage multiple enemies at once. The only way to kill Gough is to pierce him in the eye with the Hawkeye Gough Knife, as this causes immense bleeding and death.

While the game only has one instance of Hawkeye Gough, his name is mentioned several times. The first time is in the NPC introduction cutscene, where he is mentioned to be the “last of his kind”. It is also mentioned that he is the best swordsman alive. The second time is in the game’s opening sequence, where he is referred to as a legend of his own time, alongside Solaire of Astora and Lautreca of Carim.

This version of the character is a member of the JSA and serves as its chairman during its investigation by Congress’s Joint Committee on Un-American Activities for communist sympathies. Following this he retires to an island in space, where he is reborn as the cosmic hero Black Adam. After returning to Earth, he is joined by his daughter and former love, Shiera, who reverts back to her original name of Hawkgirl and joins the JSA as an incarnation of Lady Liberty. The pair are active in the 1940s and 1950s before reducing their activities for the bulk of the Cold War. They are reactivated in the 1980s.
