When it comes to Avengers: Endgame, one thing is certain: Jeremy Renner’s long-absent Hawkeye has a very different look than we expected him to. As we saw in the trailer, he’s been dusted by Thanos, and his hair is a big part of that.
In Endgame, Barton finds that he’s been forced to change his way of thinking and acting in order to cope with the loss of his family and a world that no longer recognizes him as an Avenger. And it’s a change that takes him far away from the softer, more humane heroes we expect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ultimately, this is the only option that Clint has left. And as it turns out, it’s also the only choice that has left him feeling a lot more at peace than he ever has before.
It’s not difficult to see why: Just a few years before the snap, Barton had gone through some very tough times, including being on house arrest for a while after Civil War and being on the receiving end of a vicious attack from a group of criminals who called themselves “The Guardians,” who took down his daughter Laura and her husband Clint. It was an especially traumatic experience for the man who had spent his life chasing justice and trying to protect people from bad guys.
But now that his family is no longer safe, he’s taken a much more extreme route to healing and revenge. Somewhere between the snap and a five-year jump in the action, he assumes the identity of Ronin and roams the globe killing bad guys with no mercy. His teammates are concerned, and when Natasha finds him again she’s shocked to find that he looks and acts like a completely different character, all of a sudden an unreliable hero who can’t seem to make up his mind about how to proceed in battle.
What’s worse, though, is that he hasn’t reached out to anyone, and that his new haircut (a pitch-black, dyed-in-a-gas-station-bathroom-sink fauxhawk) speaks loudly to how he feels about his life in the wake of Thanos’ snap. It may seem like the sort of hairstyle you’d expect to get from a barber who’s been dusted by Thanos, but it’s really just a symptom of the PTSD that came with the devastating destruction of his family.
And that, as we’ve said, can make for a very twisted and cruel kind of revenge. It can lead to the death of innocent people and even entire groups of enemies, which isn’t what most fans would have preferred from a hero like Clint Barton, who was already well-established as an Avenger.
But maybe he can learn from other heroes who have undergone similar changes. After all, Black Panther’s genius sister Shuri, for example, has a striking and sophisticated mohawk that works perfectly with her badass, high-tech suit and accessories.
Getting the perfect hawkeye endgame haircut is all about understanding your face shape and profile and working with a stylist to create a haircut that’s suited to you. The best way to do that is to show your stylist a photo of what you’d like to achieve and let them know what look you’re going for.
